Five and a bit years ago, Make the Break was me in a spare room, figuring things out as I went along. Today, we’re a focused team helping renewable energy companies cut through the noise and get the attention they deserve.

This isn’t about our shiny new website (though we’re quite pleased with it). This is about the evolution of what we offer and who we’ve become.

How it started ….

From scrappy to strategic

In the early days, it was scrappy. I won’t pretend otherwise. One person, lots of enthusiasm, and a willingness to say yes to almost anything. But here’s what happened: as things progressed and with every team member who joined, our capabilities took a step change.

We’ve hired slowly and deliberately. Each new person hasn’t just added skills – they’ve transformed what we can offer. Today’s Make the Break bears little resemblance to that spare room operation, except for one thing: we’re still obsessed with helping renewable energy companies succeed.

The difference is that now we know exactly how to do it.

 

What We Actually Do (The Non-Jargony Version)

We help renewable energy companies get better at explaining what they do and why it matters.

That might mean helping a software developer tell their story without sending people to sleep. It could be coaching a brilliant engineer to present their breakthrough design so investors actually get it. Often, it’s working with a growing company to figure out what they want to be famous for.

Not “strategic communications solutions” or “integrated marketing ecosystems” – just helping good people with good ideas cut through the noise.

We’ve been fortunate to work with some impressive companies in our sector. The likes of Empire Engineering, Ternan Energy, LiveDiligence, CEA, Arup, Bitbloom and Everoze have trusted us with projects that matter to them.

But the real measure isn’t the names on our client list – it’s that these companies are now better at explaining what they do than they were before we met. We’ve been popping up in industry discussions, hosting webinars that people actually attend, and slowly building a reputation for getting things done.

What’s Different Now

The new website isn’t just prettier (though it is). It reflects something deeper: we’re confident in who we can help and how we go about it.

Right now, we’re known for doing good work for our clients. For our business development experience. For our marketing ideas. For being creative problem-solvers who get stuff done. That’s not a bad place to be – but it’s not where we want to stop.

We want to be known as utterly transformational for our clients. As a guide who helps them navigate not just marketing challenges, and provides the catalyst for a wholesale shift in how they think about their business. Our mission is to be the go-to people for knowing the right connections, facilitating the right conversations, and giving our clients the confidence to take bigger swings.

This evolution from tactical helper to strategic guide – that’s what the new website represents.

The Boring But Important Stuff

Behind the scenes, we’ve been building the foundations for bigger things. We’ve worked hard at our internal setup and accompanying tech stack. Better processes that let us take on more strategic work. A team with complementary skills that amplify each other. The kind of setup that means we can handle the briefs that keep us awake at night because we’re excited to solve them.

We’re ready for more challenging projects. The kind where the stakes matter and the outcomes can genuinely change how a company shows up in the world.

What’s Next?

Let’s be honest – renewable energy is going through some choppy waters right now. The macro environment is challenging, and it might stay that way for a while.

But that’s exactly when bold thinking matters most. The energy transition isn’t optional – it’s an imperative. The companies that emerge stronger from this period will be the ones that stay focused on what matters, communicate with clarity, and build the relationships that will carry them forward.
